Protect against unwelcome viruses!

'Tis the season of giving gifts as well as receiving unwelcome ones, namely viruses! In winter viruses can spread like wildfire and no one wants to feel under the weather and miss out on all the festive parties. These viruses are spread from coughs and sneezes and can last on surfaces for 24 hours so simple measures such as washing hands regularly and sneezing/coughing into tissues and then disposing of them immediately can help reduce the risk of infection.


Certain groups of you will be eligible for the free flu vaccination e.g. if you are pregnant, over 65 or have a long term health condition. Children aged 2 or 3 are also included and for a full list of whose eligible be sure to check this website:

As the days shorten and we are deprived of the glorious sun and our skin does not make enough vitamin D. Vitamin D is vital to ensure our muscles, bones and teeth are kept in pristine condition and a lack of it can contribute to decreased energy levels and bone pain. It is recommended adults take 10 micrograms of vitamin D per day during the autumn/winter months and this can be bought over the counter at any pharmacy without a doctor’s prescription.


Food sources of vitamin D include oily fish, red meat and egg yolks. Good functioning bones and muscles are also vital to ensure you display only the best moves possible on the dance floor during the party season, so go on, be sure to take Vitamin D to bring out the Diva in you!
